What Is A Soul Tie?
Negative Soul Ties can present obstacles to relationships with God and others. Breaking these can transform you into a spirit-based person, prepared for kingdom living today. This is the second truth in the Transformation journey to walking in repentance. Signs of negative soul ties include comments like âYou do not do things right" or âThat is not the way it is done,â lingering from past ties, indicating a need for transformation.
Your soul, which is different from your spirit, includes your mind, will, and emotions. Soul ties form when people interact, intertwining their thoughts, choices, and feelings. When people connect deeply, they form soul ties, which can be helpful or hurtful. Recently, there has been an increase in negative soul ties, especially among children and teens, often linked to sexual immorality like pornography or social media. These ties can even develop without physical contact, thanks to technology and platforms such as Facebook, TikTok, Instagram, X, blogs, texting, and AI tools. People might share intimate or graphic images and words online before meeting in person, which can lead to quick, intense relationships once they do meet. It is important to break negative soul ties and walk in repentance as part of personal transformation.
1 Corinthians 1:10, NKJV: âNow I plead with you, brethren, by the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that you all speak the same thing and that there be no divisions among you, but that you be perfectly joined together in the same mind and in the same judgment.â
Is A Soul Tie Good Or Bad?
Good soul ties are rooted in God's law and grounded in Christ's teachings. Although "soul tie" is a human-made term, many biblical examples illustrate such connections â David and Jonathan, Elijah and Elisha, Ruth and Naomi, Ruth and Boaz, Paul and Timothy. Godly soul ties occur when believers who share the same faith come together in the Lord, such as marriages, parent-child bonds, friendships, and relationships among believers and pastors. Healthy soul ties strengthen and stabilize the soul. The deeper the intimacy in relationships, the greater the freedom to be authentic and to share others' burdens (Galatians 6:2, NKJV). When you cultivate a Christ-centered relationship with others, the Holy Spirit acts as the spiritual bond that connects you to them. As a Christian, your deepest soul tie is with God through the Holy Spirit.
Galatians 6:2, NKJV: âBear one another's burdens and so fulfill the law of Christ.â
Obviously, you want to have a good, strong soul tie with God, your spouse, and your kids, and to have broken any lasting soul ties with other people. Though not the same as marriage, you also need to have a positive soul tie with your current boss and break any soul ties with previous bosses. It should not be a competition.
Relationships that are not God-centered may lead to ungodly soul ties, which can be harmful and demonic. Relationships lacking "God-centeredness" can foster unhealthy attachments with various people in our lives. Negative soul ties can include:
Ungodly Parent/Child Ties
Ungodly Sexual Relationships/Fantasies
Ungodly Friendship/Companionships
Idolatry
With Someone who has died, if it negatively impacts your life today
Demonic Soul Ties (occult, tattoos, etc.)
How Do You Break A Negative Soul Tie?
Recognizing unhealthy soul ties is just the first step; acknowledging them is not enough. You must actively break these ties, reclaim your soul part, and return the other person's soul portion. Command evil spirits linked to soul tiesâlust, fantasy, adultery, fornication, idolatryâto leave in Jesus' name. Confess to God that these spirits no longer have rights over you, as the Holy Spirit is within you (1 Corinthians 6:18-20, NKJV). Sometimes, you may also need to pray for freedom from healthy soul ties with the deceased if they hinder current relationships.
Words like âat my old job,â âmy mother always did it this way,â or âwe have always done it this wayâ indicate soul ties negatively affecting your current relationships. These ties hinder your ministry in your job, family, and marriage, even if they were good in the past; they should not interfere now.
Negative soul ties can interfere with your relationship with God and His commandments. Forgiveness is essential, even if the sin was committed in ignorance.
Ask God to forgive all negative soul ties that have been formed, even if you were unaware of them. Seek forgiveness and repent to be cleansed âfrom all unrighteousnessâ (1 John 1:9, NKJV). Be specific when breaking soul ties by listing and describing those connections. Declare that every demonic soul tie on your list will be broken in Jesus' name and that the soul fragments will be returned. Breaking a soul tie is not a surgical procedure, so you must walk in freedom and repentance by controlling your thoughts.
1 John 1:9, NKJV: âIf we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.â
To break a soul tie, you must acknowledge, identify, and confess it as a sin. Pray the prayer and break every soul tie in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ! Continue on your transformation journey by breaking all negative soul ties.
